"Excellent pork baby back ribs. Awful value. The best babyback ribs anywhere, including Gates in Kansas City. But it is ridiculously expensive. The ribs cost $30 for lunch, not including anything extra. Be ready to spend at least $100 for 2 people. Dinner will hit $200. For that kind of price, it is not quaint, it is not cozy, it is not luxury. It is a fancy Dennys." - 1234 posted Monday, May 23, 2005
"Great decor - modern and sleek. Prime rib - generous cut and excellent. Service was OK. NOT so good ... ceasar salad at $11 (skimpy plate and not made at table side; seemed premade). Bartenders more concerned w/ yakking up the regulars for tips than providing service to the other patrons. The price range is upper $20-$30's/entrees ... I therefore, have higher expectations and they did not meet it. " - cc posted Friday, April 22, 2005
"This place is way too expensive. There are many other restaurants in old town pasadena you can go to for better food at a lesser price. The service is great and the food here is good though, but be prepared to pay for it. If you are ugly, then this is the place to take your date on her first night out so she can't get a good look at you because this place is so dark inside that you need a flashlight to walk around. "Overpriced, dry food, bad service - what else can you say about just another bad franchise?! Don't believe the hype!" - JED posted Friday, October 22, 2004
"Geez, $100 for lunch!!! Having seen the giant billboard a few months back, the 3 of us decided to head over to this overpriced restaurant this month. Our young waiter (glad to know you're nursing a hangover!) informed us the mashed potatoes were instant..but they tasted "homemeade" Our meal tasted okey.... but to shell out nearly $100 for lunch (entree and one drink each) ..well, ya got us once!" - KP posted Friday, October 22, 2004
"I don't know what "Houston's" these other barbarians might have stumbled into, but the Pasadena restaurant is one of my favorite places to go when I want to dine out. I've been there perhaps a dozen times in the past two years and I cannot say enough about this establishment. The ambiance is warm and soothing, the wait staff uniformly courteous and efficient (Houston's training for its servers should be used as a model for other restaurants. I never have to wait for my glass of water to be refilled or my empty glass of coke to be replaced with a fresh beverage; indeed, I never have to ask for a fresh coke - it just appears in front of me as if by magic!). The food is consistently excellent there, the meat dishes cooked to perfection - and I mean EVERY time - and the side dishes a perfect accent to the Hawaiian ribeye (my personal favorite), the filet mignon, the prime rib or their fantastic barbecue ribs. Overpriced? I think not. That particular criticism seems to be leveled by parochially-minded diners whose idea of "good eating" is a trip to that bastion of class and taste: The Sizzler! If your idea of dining out is getting a meal for two for under $20, then please stay home with your micowave dinners and let those of us in the know who appreciate a good meal have our restaurant to ourselves. If you've never been to Houston's you owe yourself a night out at this wonderful place (try their "mai tais," too, they're terrific). " - BC posted Saturday, August 14, 2004
"Houston's offers some of the best food in Pasadena. It is always clean, the food is always delicious, the drinks are marvelously mixed and the ambiance is perfect for enjoying a romantic evening out or sharing a night with friends. The fine cuts of beef and fresh fish are evident -- even if you have to pay a little more. The staff is highly trained in offering exemplary service and the deserts are second to none. I am no stranger to good food and fine dining, and I would rate Houston's at 9.5 out of 10 -- and only because they don't have a room for private parties. Houston's, keep doing what you're doing. "I'm flooreds by the negative responses here. When My husband asks me where I want to go eat I allways say HOUSTON'S! The service is impeccable the food divine and the atmosphere romantic. This place is always busy that should tell you something. Even though busy we never wait long unless your there at peak dinner time on a fri. of sat. night. The ribs are too die for the french dip is soooo good and the sashimi salad is fab. They have an incredible sundae for dessert. Really I've been to Houston's dozens of times and have been more thatn satisfied every time. HIghly reccomend this restaurant." - cjs posted Tuesday, May 18, 2004
"If you have more money than sense, this is the place to go.I had high hopes for this place, but I was seriously disappointed by the high prices and lack of, well, good food. I had the filet mignon with a caesar salad, but the salad had so much oil in it I could have refined it and used it to gas up the car. The filet mignon, while a good cut of meat, was rare and not medium rare as I had asked - and it came with one, count 'em, one sliced raw tomato. True, I could have asked the waitress to have the meat cooked some more, but our waitress never once asked us how the food was - she didn't even come by until I finished my glass of wine, and never offered us any water, either. And for the $30 that my meal alone cost, I would have expected a complete meal - are bread or vegetables too expensive to include? You might not get quite the same atmosphere at an Outback Steakhouse, but you'll get food that's better at half the price." - ML posted Tuesday, April 20, 2004
"whoa, I am suprised by all the other comments I read here; I just had dinner here few nights ago (March 30 2004) and all of my friends are highly satifised. We tried Hawaian Rib Eye, Filet Mignon, and the Prime Rib; all of them were excellently done. " - acl posted Thursday, April 8, 2004
"The dark environment didn't bother me. But the food was not good at all. The Hawaiian ribeye didn't have much flavor at all. It was not very tender, and also fatty. I've had better steak at Sizzler's (onion stack steak). The french dip sandwich au jus did not have flavor either. Dunking it in the au jus just managed to make it more soggier, but the sauce needed more flavor. Best part of the meal was the baked potatoe because it had bacon in it. I would never go back to this place, and would advise you to go anywhere else for steak. Sizzler's would be less than half the price, and much better tasting too. "I don't know why everyone can only think of the lighting. True, it's dark, but let's move on! This restaurant is a busy place. There seems to always be a wait for lunch and dinner. However, the service is usually excellent, and the food is very well made. My favorites are the the baby back ribs. They give you a whole rack of fall-off-the-bone ribs, two sides, a little side of barbecue sauce, a plate for the bones, a nice serrated steak knife, and a huge napkin. I usually have the thin-cut fries and the delicious baked beans (none of those vegetarian beans, but with some little hunks of meat for flavor). I really enjoy the table, which is like sitting at your own well-seasoned butcher block. No coaster is provided for your cold drink, nor is there any need. I never see any signs of wear or discoloration on these table tops, smoothly sanded and beautiful, a joy. I grew up in Houston, and the decor definitely reminds me of the city, especially the long, thin brick veneer." - FK posted Friday, September 20, 2002
"I don't know what everyone else is talking about. This place is great. It's got less of a wait then the cheesecake factory, bigger portions, and better food. I personally like the intimate lighting that they have. The ribs there are the best I have ever had. They fall right off the bone they are so tender and a single serving of them can feed two. I don't know anything about their mashed potatoes, but their baked potatoes come bursting with toppings. Definitely worth the trip." - AMC posted Friday, March 9, 2001

"Valet-parking only! Rib-eye was the special, sorry we're out cuz it didn't meet our standards. Ended up with some other dryed out piece of meat which was over-priced which I couldn't see cuz it was too dark." - jw posted Thursday, August 17, 2000
"This is the place to take that ugly skank that your just lookin to bang. At least at Houston's you won't have to stare at her ugly mug during your meal." - DD posted Wednesday, August 2, 2000
