"FOOD POISONING. I hate the Filet Mignon (12 oz., cooked medium) with peppercorn sauce, and Garlic Mashed Potatos. The Filet Mignon (which is $38, excluding tax!) was so bad that I had to make a comment on the receipt about how about it was. Later that night, I got stomach pains and body aches. I had gotten food poisoning from JJ Steak House!! The next day, my boyfriend called JJ Steak House to let them know what happened, and they said that they'll call him back the next day....still waiting for the call... " - MMK

"It's been years since I went there and never again. We were seated near where the waiters were standing in between service. They were taking bets as people walked in as to whether they would be 'big spenders'. Never again!" - bf

"On Saturday, April 2, 2005 I hosted a 50th anniversary party for my parents, in one of the private dining rooms at JJ Steak House. We had 18 family members attend. The restaurant is on the third floor so if you enter from Colorado Blvd., you have to ride an escalator up two floors. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly host that immediately escorted us to our room. To say the least, this restaurant is beautiful. We were amazed that hidden away in Old Town Pasadena was something unlike any other I've seen. From the appetizers, to the salads, then a lemon sorbet to clean the pallet, and finally our entrees. My family is very hard to please, especially with steaks. Not one problem with temperatures...everything was cooked to perfection. My filet was so tender, it melted in my mouth. We eat out and travel almost every weekend so we know quality and JJ’s is quality. Better than Chop House, Morton’s or Ruth Chris. Several family members had seafood and were equally pleased. Our server was Roberto and was flawless. Have the double baked chocolate mousse cake with a side of ice cream...almost heaven. Thank you JJ’s for making this special night perfect. 10 out of 10." - tc

"Our experience at JJ Steakhouse was less than what one would expect:We were celebrating our one year anniversary and wanted to dine at a fine restaurant after a visit to the Huntington. Our first disappointment was with the service. We were seated timely, but after we ordered drinks and were served them, our waiter seemed to completely ignore us. After about 15 minutes, we decided to play a game and we timed how long it would take him to get back to us. Can you believe that it was 27 minutes before anyone approached our table again!!! We saw our waiter several times against the back wall chatting with several other employees, and we also saw him approaching other tables, just not us. We did not order an appetizer so it was not as if he was allowing us to enjoy it before taking our order. Both my husband and I finished our drinks and we sat there with empty glasses. Our next big disappointment was with the menu. We did not see anything on the menu which was unusual, different, or exciting. We thought we could have a new dining experience, but our choices were the usual steaks, fish, and chicken prepared as run of the mill dishes. Since there wasn't much to tempt us, I ordered the chicken and my husband had the swordfish. Both dishes were mediocre at the best. My chicken appeared to be those prepackage Costco type chicken breasts over some instant mashed potatoes with some sort of sauce covering them. My husband expressed his fish was tough and tasteless. Even the choices of desserts were ordinary; cheesecake, chocolate cake, tiramisu, and ice cream. Ho hum. The only bright spot in the whole meal was the coffee, which was rich and tasty. After the meal we were in such a hurry to finally end it, we took bets on how long it would be before our waiter picked up the credit card, and were surprised at how quickly he was there for it. Hmmmmm, that has to say something, doesn't it?All in all, our experience at JJ Steakhouse was less than pleasant and we would not recommend it to any of our friends. " - eg

"Good steaks, great atmosphere, if you want to have a romantic dimly lit setting with a pianist playing this is the placewaiters were gracious and deserve to be well tipped. A bit pricey but well worth it on a special occaison. A C-note easy for 2 w/drinks." - NG

"The food is OK (the steaks could have been betterquality) but the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Very romantic. And the service was great. (Ask for John Mayes (sp?) the waiter)" - DS

"I asked one of the servers who was standing outside handing out flyers what kind of atmosphere and food but he replied with "This place is too expensive for you." and ignored me. Unbeknownst to him I'm attending culinary school and had been interested in going to that restaurant but now I tell my friends to avoid it." - SLM

"Having lived in Pasadena for 47 years, I have enjoyed watching the city evolve, especially Old Pasadena, where some of Southern California's finest restaurants can be found. I am sorry to say that my experience at JJ's Steak House was without question my worst dinning experience in Pasadena , bar none. My business associate ordered a New York MR, and having had steak the previous night, I decided upon the Rack of Lamb. To abbreviate the experience, it was uneatable, as the fat was more abundant than meat. I sent it back, however the waiter refused to remove the cost from the bill, but instead "comped" my spinach. We ordered coffee, the bill arrived, I paid it with an extremely generous 15%. The waiter picked up the bill, and never returned to ask us if we'd like more coffee. JJ's -- A big fat 0 out of 10." - SM
