"One of the most charming French bistros I been to outside of Paris. It is very European, so I suggest those used to eating large amounts of bland food skip it and go back to McDonald's. I've been the Cafe Beaujolais many times, and it is my favorite French restaurant in the area. They have consistently great food, fantastic Kir Royales, and really cute French waiters "without the attitude" as their shirts say. I love the little room in back for a very romantic meal for two. HIGHLY recommended." - kdk posted Tuesday, July 26, 2005
"Worst French fries ever. I'm convinced they were frozen and then barely cooked: limp & watery. A true French joint should at least have properly prepared "pommes frites". Some of us have had the real thing and know the difference." - sbr posted Friday, February 13, 2004
"The best restaurant in Los Angeles according to meGreat decors, authentic french waiters, very good food" - ES posted Thursday, May 1, 2003
"This is a true French bistro, not a yuppified, overpriced continental-wannabe. Everything we had was excellent and elegantly prepared, from the appetizers to the desserts; the tomatoes in the tomato-mozzarella salad were ripe and tasty (a true test of good restaurant fare), the steak with roquefort sauce was absolutely tender and perfectly done, and the creme brulee was the best I have ever had. The wine list is wonderful as well - you can get very good champagne by the glass, among other things. The service is charming and attentive; the night we were there the owner bought our party a round of drinks because our table was not quite ready yet when we arrived. I understand they also have great live entertainment (jazz) on Wednesdays. I will definitely return!" - sos posted Monday, June 19, 2000
"If a charming french countryside interior is all you are looking for, then this is the place. If you are looking for good french food, FORGET IT! My husband and I went there with our adult son and were so disappointed. First -- I like a salad with bleu cheese dressing - all they had was vinagarette. I had the caesar salad instead. It reeked of anchovies so bad that none of us could eat it. My husband had french onion soup. I have always been under the impression that french onion soup had a layer of cheese of top. If there was any cheese on top or in the soup for that matter I'd like someone to show it to me. For our entrees, my husband ordered the seafood special -- turned out to be two pissant-sized pieces of salmon on top of A LOT of rice. Certainly not worth $12.95. I ordered a filet with roquefort sauce (if they have a sauce, why no salad dressing???) Very small for $14.95 (if you want a top-notch steak, go to Taylors in La Crescenta). Our son ordered a top sirloin steak with garlic seasoning and french fries. Never in my life have I seen a top sirloin steak like this. I swear it was a piece of tough carne asada smothered in garlic salt. The huge pile of french fries were mediocre at best. The service was merely so-so. Our waiter seemed to have a "I don't need your money" attitude. Needless to say, we will never go back. Give me "Northwoods Inn" anyday. At least it is consistent." - mml posted Tuesday, April 25, 2000
"A little French gem tucked along Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock. This restaurant will catapult you into a small country tavern in a small French village, and you will forget you are in L.A. The waiters are all VERY FRENCH, the decor is very quaint, and the food is the best of French country cuisine. Make reservations." - DS posted
