"Chinese mirch, Indo chinese cuisineI am surprised at the positive review that this restaurant gained in NY times. Being an Indian, I have been exposed to Indochinese food from decent to best indochinese restaurants back in India. I would say that Chinese Mirch deserves a negative star rating and that the food is awful. The hot & sour soup was semi cooked had a lot of cabbage pieces and some unrecognisable other stuff. Noodles were okay. The chicken manchurian has gravy and chicken pieces tasted of reused deep fried oil and were full of floury substance. The gravy looked unpleasant shade of brownish yellow and tasted of raw red chilli powder. The chilli shrimp was the only dish that was a little palatable it has a raw chilli powder taste to it. All the above dishes had a taste of tasted of raw chilli powder, as though the chef mixed in the chilli powder after cooking the dishes. Real Indochinese food though very very spicy is a subtle fusion of various spices. Take the Chicken Manchurian- it has very spicy tangy garlicky taste overlaid by the taste of coriander leaves. The best indochinese food I had in New York is a small restaurant called Tangara Masala in queens (a well kept secret of Indians). It is small and they take cash no credit cards. I am sure that JULIA MOSKIN of NY Times will agree with me, if she visits and dines at Tangara Masala that the version of indochinese food Chinese Mirch is serving is not the authentic spicy, tasty & tangy indochinese cuisine most of the indians back home have tasted. The other spicy chinese restaurants that I love to visit often are Pearl in upper west side and Wu Liang Ye in mid town. Those of you who love hot spicy food should try the Three pepper beef or chicken in Pearl, it is out of this world." - ar
